8.2 km Time Trial
Please park on 21st Street between Spadina Crescent and 4th Avenue South or in the pay parking lot across from the Delta Bessborough Hotel. Washroom facilities are located in the Delta Bessborough Hotel or the Sheraton Cavalier Hotel. Please do not take your bicycle into the hotel.
Riders may not use Spadina Crescent for warm up. When warming up or returning from the finish line of the time trial, racers may not ride more than 2 abreast and must stay in the bike lane. Please do not hold up or block traffic. As with all other stages of this race, you will be required to wear a helmet and obey all traffic laws while racing or warming up. NO time bonuses or cash prizes (except for Para and CAT 6 Youth (U19)) for the Time Trial.
Two race numbers must be worn, as per the diagram in the technical guide, along with an RFID timing chip on your helmet. Numbers may not be folded, cut, overlapped or covered. ** Remember, if we can’t see your number, we can’t give you an accurate finishing time!
NO time bonuses or cash prizes for the Time Trial
**Junior gear (7.93 meters) rollouts for U19 riders will take place near the Start line between 5:15 – 5:30 PM. Junior gears must be ridden in all 3 races.
- U19 categories will not be subject to bike and equipment restrictions. (Bikes must still conform to UCI rules and Junior gearing rules).
- U17 riders are required to use their standard road race bike (no TT-specific bikes allowed) for all Time Trials. Time trial helmets are not allowed. May use clip-on aero bars for TT races. Wheels must be low-profile, non-carbon (may not exceed 40mm).
- U15 riders and under are required to use their standard road race bike (no TT-specific bikes allowed) for all Time Trials. Time trial helmets and aero bars are not allowed. Wheels must be low-profile, non-carbon (may not exceed 40mm).
There is no wheel pit for this time trial and follow vehicles are not permitted. If approved by the Chief Commissaire, racers who flat or crash and are unable to complete the time trial will be given the same time as the slowest rider in their category and allowed to start the next stage. Please discuss with the Chief Commissaire if this applies to you.
All riders start at 6:00 PM. Riders will be sent off at thirty (30) second intervals in the following order: CAT 5, CAT 4, Women, CAT 3 and Cat 1/2 with a two (2) minute gap between categories.
Start lists will be posted as soon as possible after registration closes and will be posted near the start line of the Time Trial. Please do not ask for your specific start time in advance- it just causes delays. Any racer missing their posted start time by more than 1 minute will be assessed a one (1) minute penalty and must start after all other riders in their category. Any racer missing their posted start time by less than 1 minute, will keep the time that they should have started at and will be allowed to start under the direction of the start line Commissaire.
The time trial is 8.2 km in length (see map). Do NOT ride outside of the cones or on the center line at any time – any rider seen riding outside the cones or receiving a draft will be penalized. Areas of the road may be rough and may contain potholes. Racers are encouraged to be aware at all times. The time trial ends on a slight rise just past the Water Treatment Plant.
